Bedtime changes

We are starting a process of trying to change DS1's bedtime routine. Last night we gave him a cup of milk instead of a bottle of formula before bed. We also tried a cup of milk, juice, and/or water during the night (instead of the rest of his formula or a bottle with juice). He drank the cup of milk at bedtime without any objection. During the night, however, he didn't want the cup of milk. He drank one swallow from the milk, then refused all other cups. I poured the juice into a bottle and he drank that. This morning he did not want to drink from a cup either. He was crankier than usual this morning, too (probably hungry).

We'll probably try the same thing for a few nights, or until the cup is acceptable all of the time. He can drink without a sippy lid now, and with a straw, too.

After that we want to work in teeth brushing after the last non-water drink. We also want to get him to not need to be held to go to sleep. He will often comfort himself back to sleep in the middle of the night, but usually cries if we put him in the crib for the night when he is still awake (so we don't).
