New skills

Last evening we had DS1 try on a bunch of clothes. I was really impressed with how much he helped, particularly with the pants. He has been pretty good at helping with shirts in the mornings for a while, but since DH gets him ready in the mornings now, I didn't realize how much he can do.

Picture Day

Today was picture day at daycare. We forgot. Oops! I'm sure people will think DS is cute in his I'm a Big Brother t-shirt, but we would have waited until tomorrow if we would have remembered. We did not intend to have baby brother be so prominent in big brother's "school" picture. I hope they have a re-take day.

It's a little brother!

DS #1 is a big brother! Little brother was born Thursday evening, and DS1 stayed overnight with an aunt, uncle, and cousin. It was his first time away from Mom and Dad overnight at the same time. Aunt said that he did fine.

DS1 met DS2 Friday after daycare and seemed to get along well. He touched his foot and head but didn't try to poke him in the eye or anything like that. DS1 did need extra Mommy-lap time, but that as fine because Mommy has a lap again and Daddy was happy to hold DS2 for a while.

DS1 stayed home with a friend when Daddy came to get Mommy and DS2 from the hospital. When I got home DS1 looked like he had been crying, but nothing was said about that. He was very tired because today was a busy day at church and not only did he miss his morning nap (as is common on Sundays) but his afternoon nap was super short, too. He sat on my lap while DS2 slept in the car seat and Daddy unpacked the car. I feel sad for me and DS1 already, that I won't be able to pick him up for several weeks, and that I won't be able to spend as much time with him. I think that he will probably adjust better than I will, especially when his weekday routine is back in place.

Puffy eye

DS woke up with a puffy upper eyelid this morning. He had a bug bit on his forehead on the other side, so we thought the eyelid might have been from another bite. DCP called me late in the morning and said DS's eye was almost swollen shut and requested that we take him to the doctor. We went in this afternoon and saw one of the other doctors in the practice since ours was only there this morning. Diagnosis... sinus infection. Apparantly, especially in young children, the sinus infection will drain up via the tear ducts toward the eye and cause swelling in the soft tissue there. We have an antibiotic Rx. It may look worse in the morning, but might start to look better that soon. It definitely should look better by Friday. I guess our family pictures (before baby #2) will have to wait a few extra days.

Mom To Mom: Bedtime Rituals -- We need to change our bedtime ritual and/or make it more consistent. It is not very hard for me to hold DS on my lap (because I have no lap). Very soon baby #2 will disrupt things and I really hope that DS will not have more trouble at night.

Sleeping

DS's full-night sleeping streak is over, but it sure was wonderful! We have all been sick on and off for the past 3 weeks. I was getting very rundown and DH was starting to feel bad toward the end of last week. DS surprised us Friday morning by sleeping all night (from 9pm - 7am) Thursday night! Then he did it again Friday night, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday nights! Last night he woke up around 3. I gave him a bottle and he had trouble getting back to sleep. He's teething again/still. He has his 2 top middle teeth, and I can see the next top 2 trying to come through. The bottom ones aren't visible yet, though.

Facts About Concussion and Brain Injury: Section 1
Big bump

Boulder Community Hospital:Neuroscience -- I just got a call from daycare that DS fell and bumped his head. That's not normally a big deal, but they said that it's a pretty big bump and is brusing very quickly. Since it's almost quitting time, I'm going to go get him now and perhaps we will call the doctor this evening if DH and I get worried. DS's 15 month checkup is tomorrow, so at least we will be seeing a doctor soon anyway.

No more MM

Last night we used the last bag of frozen Mother's Milk (breastmilk) from my friend. So DS will be MM-less until the baby is born, unless he decides to not nurse when given the chance. I'm very grateful to J for her generosity for these past 7 months! We are so lucky to have a friend like her. (She is having pump resistance right now, so I loaned her my Isis manual pumps in case a chance would help. She is getting a little more at work than a couple of weeks ago, so she might be able to keep feeding her DS MM through his first birthday next month.)
